Canyons Bike Park is First in Region to Earn 100 Percent PMBI Certification
PARK CITY, Utah July 16– Utah’s only lift-served gravity mountain bike park at Canyons Resort now offers lessons exclusively by instructors certified as Professional Mountain Bike Instructors (PMBI), after all Canyons guides received their Level One certification.

PMBI is the industry standard for mountain bike teaching professionals, akin to PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) certification for ski and snowboard instructors.  Recently, six Canyons guides passed a three-day course that covered technical aspects of riding, best practices of teaching and analysis of students’ techniques while underscoring important messages about safe riding. Based in British Columbia, PMBI head instructor Paul Howard traveled to Canyons to teach the three-day course at Canyons Bike Park.

“We provide our clients with the tools to be intelligent, adaptable teachers,” Howard said.  “The Canyons group is fun and very professional – they have a good understanding of the principles of teaching and guiding.”

Steve Luker, Canyons Resort Activities Director, said the PMBI certification sets Canyons Bike Park apart from any other mountain biking destination in the region.

“Whether our guests are beginners or advanced riders, they can now be certain their learning is consistent and of the highest professional standard,” he said.  “It’s huge for us that we were all certified at Canyons Bike Park – we know which skills we can teach on which trails depending on the skill level of our guests.”

Canyons Mountain Bike Academy offers Mountain Bike 101 clinics for beginners, including lift ticket, rental bike, instruction and protection gear for half-day ($99) or full-day ($149).  Bike Park 201 includes the same for riders with more developed skills from $79 - $169.  Private lessons, as well as cross-country tours are also available.  Reservations are recommended by calling 435-615-3442.

In its second full summer, Canyons Bike Park is Utah’s only lift-served, gravity mountain bike park with flow trails and both dirt and man-made features for riders of all ages and abilities.  For high-resolution photos, Canyons Bike Park tours or additional information, please contact Canyons Public Relations at (435) 615-4843.  To learn more about PMBI certification, visit www.pmbia.com.
