JJ Grey & Mofro will headline the first of three outdoor concerts, with the remaining two performances scheduled for July 6, and August 17. Performers for the July and August shows will be announced in the coming weeks.

“We look forward to kicking off our new summer music series with JJ Grey & Mofro headlining the first show," said Bill Rock, chief operating officer of Northstar. “Their incredible talent, paired with the scenic venue and great acoustics offered in the Village at Northstar will provide concert goers a memorable experience."

From the backwoods of Florida, where his family has lived for generations, to hundreds of concert stages across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan and Australia, JJ Grey & Mofro have continued to deliver southern R&B with a rock edge since their debut in 2001. The band, formerly Mofro, was formed in the 1990s and is composed of Anthony Cole on the drums, Art Edmaiston on the saxophone, Anthony Farrell on the organ, Dennis Marion on the trumpet, Todd Smallie on bass, guitarist Andrew Trube and  JJ Grey (vocals, electric piano, acoustic guitar and electric guitar and harmonica).

Grey has written and recorded five albums of original songs fusing the rhythm & blues, rock and country soul. While perhaps best known for his ability to tell thought-provoking stories through original songs, Grey’s music reflects his rural Florida roots through a unique mixture of backwoods wisdom and traditional blue-collar values. For the past decade, Grey has toured around the globe and continues to spend several months a year on the road, showcasing his music to his ever-growing fanbase.

Grey released his debut album Blackwater in 2001, followed by with Lochloosa in 2004. While Grey’s following continued to gain momentum, he teamed up with Alligator Records to release Country Ghetto in 2007 and Orange Blossoms in 2008.  His career reached new heights with the 2010 release of Georgia Warhorse, featuring eleven new songs in which Grey tracked the majority of the instruments himself, including the guitar, keys, harmonica and vocals. However, it was his most notable single, “The Sweetest Thing” which brought Grey mainstream recognition, hitting radio stations across the country.

In 2011, Grey and Filmmaker/Director Spookie Daly teamed up for his first-ever live DVD/CD Brighter Days. Inspired from his fan’s desire for a deeper look into Grey’s backwoods roots, the long-awaited film features live concert footage and in depth interviews with the band, all the while capturing the rural beauty of north Florida, the soul of Grey’s music.
