Epic Promise Days Gather Over 260 Heavenly and Kirkwood Volunteers

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Sept. 25, 2017 – Epic Promise Day, a company-wide Vail Resorts program in its eighth year, brought over 260 employees from Heavenly and Kirkwood Mountain Resorts together in three different projects.
Mike Goar, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Heavenly Mountain Resort, says that this was another banner year in terms of local volunteer efforts. “Epic Promise Day, which has now become Epic Promise Week, gets better every year,” Goar said. “We are thrilled to partner with wonderful non-profits and schools to make a real difference in the community. We look forward to future projects and the continued involvement of our employees.”

Trail Rebuild with the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association
- Volunteers worked with the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) to help establish one mile of the Mule Deer Connector Trail below Angora Ridge, a popular mountain biking and hiking trail.
- Work involved cleaning the trail, digging up dangerous roots and plants, creating bank turns and more!

Helping Local Schools with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District
- Beautification work was completed at the Sierra House Mountain Academy and South Lake Tahoe Middle School.
- At Sierra House Elementary School and South Tahoe Middle School, volunteers moved and installed 45 tons of large cobble stones to improve drainage, 500 feet of drainage rock improvements, re-painted a front entrance sign, built a new Pioneer Trail zigzag fence, installed 30 logs, painted stencils on multiple blacktops, spread 40 yards of wood chips and 30 feet of new fencing and improved a half mile of nature trail.
Stream Stabilization working with California Trout
- The High Sierra meadows are a crucial part of a healthy functioning ecosystem. 112 Volunteers at Kirkwood Mountain Resort helped to improve multiple sites in the meadow area.
- Volunteers completed stream bank stabilization and re-vegetation efforts at six different sites; each site roughly 100-150 feet long. The teams also conducted trail maintenance and removed three truckloads of old barbed wire fencing from the Kirkwood Meadow.
