Breckenridge Ski Patrol Leads Avalanche Education Series Talk, Thursday, Jan. 5
-This month’s topics: “Meet Your Local CAIC Forecaster,” “Know Before You Go,” and “State of the Snowpack”
-Free and open to the public at the Village at Breck
 

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. — Dec. 30, 2017 — On Thursday, Jan. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m., Breckenridge Ski Patrol will host the first session of the 2017 Avalanche Education Series in the TenMile Room at the Village at Breckenridge. This informational series is intended to educate guests and community members about snow and avalanche safety and best practices. Additional presentations on in the series will be announced for February and March 2017.
 
To kick off the series, the Breckenridge Ski Patrol will introduce the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC)’s new zone forecaster Jason Konigsberg who will discuss how to submit observations on the organization’s website.
 
Konigsberg will be followed by the award-winning “Know Before You Go” avalanche education film. Created in 2004, this one-hour program will share the destructive power of avalanches, information on when and why they happen, and how snowsports enthusiasts can have fun in the mountains and avoid avalanches. The film will be accompanied by a presentation, led by the Breckenridge Ski Patrol.
 
Finally, Breckenridge Ski Patroller Jerry Tofferi will provide an update on the current state of the snowpack in Summit County, Colo.
 
Admission to the event is complimentary and will include free pizza while supply lasts, giveaways and a cash bar.
