Breckenridge Closing Weekend Events April 21 & 22: Take On The Breck Plunge or Imperial Challenge
Share:

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. – April 11, 2018 — Breckenridge Ski Resort has the perfect recipe to enjoy springtime skiing now through closing day, Sunday, April 22 – heavy doses of sunshine, more than 3 feet of fresh snow in the last week, plus a helping of fun closing weekend festivities. On Saturday, April 21 gear up for the 2018 Imperial Challenge, a pseudo 6 mile triathlon that takes you to the top of Peak 8 via bike and ski. Then on Sunday, April 22 join the crowd at Peak 8 or suit up yourself, and join dozens of brave souls sporting their zaniest outfits as they take the Breck Plunge, the resort’s signature Closing Day pond skimming event.

Thanks to the resort’s high elevation, Breck stays open longer than most major resorts in the county, but alas all good things must come to an end. So on closing weekend, April 21-22, why not say goodbye to the 2017-18 ski season in style?

The Breck Plunge – Closing Day, Sunday, April 22
Breckenridge Ski Resort is providing a frigid pond of water at the base of peak 8 and all participants need to do is sign up, dress up, and arrive prepared with the courage to try to ski or snowboard across it. Spectators are invited to join the fun and cheer on their friends at the base of Peak 8. Afterwards enjoy food, drinks, and live music at the TBar with Tina and Coco.

Judges will be on hand for the frigidly fun festivities. Successfully skimming the pond is not the only way to score points and win prizes though, as participants will be judged on costumes too! Pro Tips: (1) The best costumes are the ones that get the crowd going with lots of laughs. (2) The faster you go, the more likely you are to reach the end, but there’s always a high likelihood you will still end up taking the plunge!

Registration for the event begins on Thursday, April 12, and is $25 per plunger, open to competitors ages 18 and over. For more information and to sign up head to www.Breckenridge.com.

The Imperial Challenge – Saturday, April 21
On the day before – Saturday, April 21 – it’s time to gear up for the 27th annual Imperial Challenge. Kicking off at the Breckenridge Rec Center, competitors bike or run 6 miles to the base of Peak 7, and then ascend to the top of the T-bar or to the top of Peak 8. The signature Breck event is a rite of spring, a ton of fun, and whatever you make of it – race the clock, or goof off in your funniest costume. Celebrate your hard fought victory with food and drinks at the TBar’s “Music with a View Series” on Peak 8 featuring Beau Thomas from NBC’s “The Voice” and his band from 1:30 pm -5:30 pm. To register, visit www.Mavsports.com/imperial-challenge.
