MAY 2012
May 16 Short Track MTB race
Back for 2012, the VRD presents a spring bike series to get riders ready for the upcoming bike season. No points or prizes…just a fun way to get in shape after a long winter. Races will take place on a short, dirt loop and racers have 20 minutes to ride as many laps as possible in that time. Kids’ races will be 5 and 10 minutes in length. There will be after parties after each race where you will celebrate with a raffle and adult participants will get free beer. For more information, call 970.479.2280 or email bpappas@vailrec.com
May 25-28 Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival
Beaver Creek’s 9th annual Blues Brews and BBQ event signals the beginning of summertime in the mountains Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-28, 2012. Visiting chefs from all over the country, as well as Vail Valley favorites, serve up delicious barbecue fare complemented by microbrews provided by a variety of breweries. Taste your way around the plaza while listening to a full lineup of free blues concerts each day. Bring the whole family as kids’ activities are offered for the young and young at heart.

June 9-10 Tough Mudder
Not for the faint of heart, Tough Mudder at Beaver Creek puts athletes of all levels to the ultimate test, and Beaver Creek takes it a step further with a start elevation of 8,100 feet. Described as a mix of Ironman meets Burning Man, Tough Mudder tests competitors’ all-around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie. The 10+-mile obstacle course is complete with 22 military-style challenges including electric shocks, ice-cold plunges, eight-foot walls, barbed-wire crawls, 100-foot long mud pits and the patented FireWalker gauntlet of flames. Designed by British Special Forces, Tough Mudder is recognized as the most difficult mud-run on the circuit and simply completing the course is a badge of honor as not everyone will be able to cross the finish line. June 16 Summer Solstice Trail Run
Celebrate the longest day of the year by participating in the Summer Solstice Trail Run, a 5K or 10K trail run, and let the little ones enjoy the kids K. Post-race entrants will enjoy live music, barbecue and drinks outside at Creekside Park.

Chefs from local restaurants give free culinary demonstrations at the Culinary Demonstration Tent in Beaver Creek Plaza Friday and Saturday afternoons at 5:00pm from June 22 through September 15. Multiple demonstrations will take place each day on festival weekends.
June 28 Beaver Creek Rodeo Series at Traer Creek
Dust off your cowboy boots and tack on some spurs as the Beaver Creek Rodeo returns for its eleventh season Thursday nights through August 16th. The full lineup of classic rodeo events include bronc riding, calf scramble, team roping, mutton bustin’, barrel racing, bull riding and burro racing. Located in Avon behind Chapel Square, free shuttle service is offered from the covered bridge in Beaver Creek Village. Gates open at 5 p.m. and bring the whole family for pony rides, face painting, mechanical bull, western fare and a wide range of barbeque offered by Vail Valley Restaurants.
June 30 Beaver Creek Music Experience featuring Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk / Hazel Miller
The Beaver Creek Music Experience is not just a concert; it’s a whole experience encompassing four weeks throughout the summer and covers three major genres of music. Week one focuses on Jazz, Soul and Funk. This is an opportunity to totally immerse oneself in the musical experience through workshops given by genre experts as well as concerts. The summer will culminate with a Grand Concert showcasing all of the featured music genres.

July 4 Independence Day Celebration
Celebrate the birth of our nation under the blue skies of Beaver Creek. Ride the Centennial chair lift up to Spruce Saddle with your mountain bike and cruise down. Try fly fishing on the Eagle River or nearby creeks. Whatever you choose to do by day, head to the Beaver Creek back lawn located next to the Centennial Chair lift by night for a celebration for all ages. Enjoy two free outdoor concerts featuring the J Walkers and Jerry Jeff Walker that are sure to keep the whole family entertained.
July 7 Beaver Creek Music Experience featuring Bleu Edmondson and White Water Ramble

Week two focuses on Country, Bluegrass and Roots music. This is an opportunity to totally immerse oneself in the musical experience through workshops given by genre experts as well as concerts. July 14-15 Beaver Creek XTERRA & XTERRA Trail Run
Beaver Creek XTERRA’s off road triathlon includes a mile swim in Nottingham Lake in Avon, a mountain bike up and across Beaver Creek Mountain, gaining 2,000 vertical feet in the first five miles, plus a challenging run that climbs 1,300 vertical. The XTERRA is open to all ability levels with individual and team categories. There is also the free kids’ duathlon at Beaver Creek. Cheer on your favorite elite athletes or join them. July 20-22 Beaver Creek Antique Festival
Beaver Creek Village Plaza fills with rare and interesting antiques for an entire midsummer weekend. The annual Beaver Creek Antique Festival will host some of the finest antique vendors from around the US and will feature antique furniture (both American and European), rugs, silver, dishes, artwork, jewelry, glassware, and more. Alongside the opportunity to view and purchase antiques, a variety of food booths and culinary demonstrations in the Culinary Demonstration Tent will complement the weekend activities.
July 27 Ragnar Relay Stop
PICTURE THIS: A 200(ish) mile running relay that takes you and 11 pals, day and night, through the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. This running event will start in Aspen and leap frog to Vail and finish up in Breckenridge, Colorado. Get your running calendar set; now’s your chance to find your wild side as you traverse through the rocky mountain state.
July 28 Colorado Eagle River Ride
Cycling enthusiasts enjoy this non-competitive ride highlighted by a local Century route which takes riders from the base of Beaver Creek on a scenic journey north, and includes a stretch on the dirt Colorado River Road. It showcases Colorado summer at its peak and riders of all ages are welcome. For those electing shorter distances, choose from 100-km or a 42-mile bike ride along the Eagle River. Locals will tell you to look for the ice cream truck at the Dotsero aid station- it’s a must-indulge treat along the way. No matter the distance, camaraderie and great fun are guaranteed along this fully supported ride, which ends with a party in Beaver Creek.

August 3-5 Beaver Creek Art Festival
More than 150 artists converge on Beaver Creek Village for one weekend each August. An array of artwork will be on display including watercolors, oil and acrylic paintings, woodworking, glass, sculptures, furniture, mosaics, ceramics, and jewelry. Take advantage of the unique opportunity to meet each exhibiting artist in person.
August 4 Beaver Creek Music Experience featuring The Chris Duarte Group
The Beaver Creek Music Experience is not just a concert; it’s a whole experience encompassing four weeks throughout the summer and covers three major genres of music. Week three focuses on Rock ‘n ‘Roll and Rhythm and Blues. This is an opportunity to totally immerse oneself in the musical experience through workshops given by genre experts as well as concerts. The summer will culminate with a Grand Concert showcasing all of the featured music genres.
August 9-11 Beaver Creek Wine & Spirits Festival
Combining world-renowned culinary talent and outdoor venues, the Beaver Creek Wine & Spirits Festival is the perfect blend of summertime in the mountains. From wine and mix-ology cocktail seminars to cooking classes, wine dinners, the event features culinary delights and wine and spirits offerings for a variety of palates. The popular Walk and Wine includes a guided hike with experts from the Beaver Creek Hiking Center followed by a gourmet lunch with paired wines.
August 19 TransRockies Run
Beaver Creek Resort plays host to competitors of the rugged Gore-Tex TransRockies Run, a six-day, 115 mile stage trail run through the Colorado Rockies that ends in Beaver Creek, Teams of two and new this year, 50 RUN3 solo runners, will take to the trails covering some of the most spectacular terrain in the world. The race is fully supported, including food, accommodations and on-course support for participants. Based upon the wildly successful GORE-TEX TransAlpine-Run in Europe, the TransRockies Run encompasses a multi-day, point-to-point format. The course traverses the heart of both the White River and San Isabel National Forests, and includes a mix of single track and forest road with nearly 25,000 feet of elevation gain – reaching altitudes of 12,000 feet. With $20,000 in prize money on the line, competition at the front of the pack is intense. For information and registration visit www.transrockies.com.

August 23 USA Pro Cycling Challenge
This summer professional bike racing comes to Beaver Creek, CO as the USA Pro Cycling Challenge descends upon the state Aug. 20-26, 2012. The event is a grueling 600-mile, seven-day bike race that winds through some of the most majestic and treacherous terrain Colorado and the Rocky Mountains have to offer. The pedaling begins in Durango and hits 12 other cities and towns along the way as bikers are scheduled to ascend and descend their way into Beaver Creek on day four of the race, Aug. 23. Racers will cross the finish line in Denver after seven days of arduous cycling over a mix of mountain, sprint and downtown stages. For more information visit www.usaprocyclingchallenge.com.

Chefs from local restaurants as well as visiting favorites give free culinary demonstrations at the Culinary Demonstration Tent in Beaver Creek Plaza for one final weekend. Demonstrations will take place at 12pm, 1:30pm and 3pm each day during Oktoberfest and will have a Bavarian flair to fit the theme.
September 1-2 Beaver Creek Oktoberfest
Beaver Creek's annual Oktoberfest returns Sept. 1-2 with foot stompin' oom-pah-pah music, unbeatable beer, and wunderbar wurst! Enjoy complimentary live entertainment in Beaver Creek Plaza all weekend and be sure to take advantage of great lodging packages for the event. September 14-16 Beaver Creek Luxe Festival
Beaver Creek’s newest festival contains exciting events designed to appeal to a variety of guests. This year’s Concours d’ Elegance will be a draw for luxury car enthusiasts from around the country. In addition to the 2012 Concours d’Elegance, new cars and dealers will be on hand to show the latest in luxury automobiles. Also look for home tours as well as fashion shows, art shows and cooking demonstrations. Most events will be free and open to the public. Luxe Fest in the fall of 2012 will contain not only the highlight event, Concours d’Elegance, but also will showcase an elegant display of the best of the best in autos, homes, fashion and more set among scenic Beaver Creek.
September 23 Hike, Wine and Dine
Come to Beaver Creek for the 4th Annual Hike, Wine and Dine benefiting Jack’s Place. The event starts with coffee, mimosas, and breakfast treats while you register and gear up for hike. Then you will set off for a scenic 4-mile mild hike through the picturesque trails of Beaver Creek at the peak of aspen season. Along the way enjoy a number of gourmet tastings from some of the best chefs in Beaver Creek and the Vail Valley.
