Colorado Mountain Express Demonstrates Environmental Commitment By Unveiling Largest Mercedes Benz Sprinter Fleet in Colorado
EDWARDS, Colo., Jan. 16, 2014 – As part of its 30th anniversary celebration, Colorado Mountain Express (CME) is making a significant change to its fleet of shuttle vehicles by adding 20 new Mercedes Benz Sprinter vans to its Summit County Fleet. The addition of the new Sprinter vans to nine acquired over the previous two years will make CME’s fleet of passenger Sprinter vans the largest in Colorado, decreasing CME’s environmental impact, and enhancing the experience for guests.

The increased fleet of Sprinter vans will consume less fuel and reduce emissions through clean diesel technology BlueEFFICIENCY, BlueTEC and an improved powertrain. These combined new technologies result in smaller engines that deliver more power with increased fuel economy and reduced emissions. For CME, this means that over the 200 mile round trip between Breckenridge and Denver, the Sprinter vans will use approximately six fewer gallons of fuel.

To ensure these new vehicles meet CME’s high performance standards, CME put an initial test fleet of nine Sprinters through 24 months of testing in various applications and seating configurations. CME also took the opportunity to collect and evaluate environmental performance data over the course of the test period.

“We were very excited by what we saw in terms of the performance of this vehicle over the course of the test period,” said Robert Tschupp, CME’s Vice President and General Manager. “CME conducts thorough testing before making any kind of a change, whether its tires, ski racks, or the fluids we use in our engines. So moving to the Sprinter from a vehicle we have been using for over 30 years required significant consideration.”

The benefits of an increased Sprinter fleet cross into the guest experience by allowing for interior storage of ski and snowboard gear, improved seating for up to 12 guests, a quieter ride due to the smooth shifting transmission (which is most noticeable when climbing mountain passes) and, perhaps most importantly, larger windows to take in the views along the way.

“We really like the improvement to the guest experience provided by the Sprinter,” added John Dawsey, Director of Sales and Marketing for CME. “The significant increase in headroom and legroom in these vehicles combined with the more individualized seating details such as individual headrests make for a much more comfortable ride.”

This significant investment in the environment and the experience of their guests is in addition to CME’s ongoing environmental and community support initiatives, including hosting their annual Fill the Van food drive, donating more than $100,000 of in-kind services to non-profits, schools and hospitals, among others, as well as participation in Vail Resorts’ annual Echo volunteer day.

By choosing CME, guests have peace of mind that with over 30 years of servicing Colorado mountain resorts, the most experienced, professional drivers are behind the wheel making their safety a priority. To learn more about CME visit www.coloradomountainexpress.com.
